  • MAHC Launches Housing for Healthcare

    To help bridge the housing gap and support recruitment and retention of staff, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) has launched the ‘Housing for Healthcare’ campaign in Muskoka.

    “We know that recruiting team members can be more difficult if they can’t find housing that meets their needs locally,” says Brody Purser, Associate Vice President of People. 

  • More Units Under COVID-19 Outbreak at MAHC

    Three units across both Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) sites are now in COVID-19 outbreak.

    In collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, South Wing at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) Site and North Wing at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) Site have been deemed in outbreak with staff and patient cases of COVID-19, effective October 13. 

  • No Visiting to HDMH East Wing Due to COVID-19 Outbreak

    Visiting to East Wing at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) Site has been suspended after a unit-specific COVID-19 outbreak was declared in collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit on October 9, 2022.

    Testing of patients and staff is occurring as part of outbreak management protocols, and enhanced cleaning practices are underway to limit spread.

  • COVID Outbreak on North Wing at SMMH Declared Over

    Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC), in consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, has declared the COVID-19 outbreak on the North Wing inpatient unit at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) Site over.

    The unit-specific outbreak lasted 18 days, and through outbreak management protocols including testing, 10 patient cases and five staff cases were attributed to the outbreak in total.

  • New Equipment Supports Endoscopic Ultrasound

    Thanks to fundraising for new equipment by the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is pleased to introduce endoscopic ultrasound services at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) Site.

    Endoscopic ultrasound combines endoscopy with ultrasound imaging to diagnose certain diseases.

  • Visiting to SMMH North Wing Suspended Due to COVID-19 Outbreak

    Visiting to the North Wing inpatient unit at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) Site has been suspended after a unit-specific COVID-19 outbreak was declared in collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

    Testing of patients and staff continues to occur as part of outbreak management protocols, and enhanced cleaning practices are underway to limit spread.

  • COVID Outbreak in ICU at HDMH Declared Over

    Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC), in consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, has declared the COVID-19 outbreak in the Intensive Care Unit at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) Site over.

    The outbreak lasted 12 days, and through outbreak management protocols including testing, two patient cases and six staff cases were attributed to the outbreak in total.

  • Visiting to HDMH ICU Suspended Due to COVID-19 Outbreak

    Visiting to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) Site has been suspended after a unit-specific COVID-19 outbreak was declared in collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit on August 10, 2022.

    Testing of patients and staff is occurring as part of outbreak management protocols, and enhanced cleaning practices are underway to limit spread.

  • Renovations Underway to Expand Imaging Capabilities

    Construction is underway at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) Site to replace the Nuclear Medicine machine in the Sprott Foundation’s Diagnostic Imaging department, supported by the Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s Focus on Imaging campaign and an incredible $2 million contribution by Eric and Vizma Sprott’s family foundation.

    Nuclear medicine is an essential component of any acute care facility as a specialized area of radiology used for both diagnosis and treatment.

  • Self-Screening Requirements for COVID-19 Start July 28

    As pandemic measures ease with the loosening of provincial restrictions, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is moving to passive screening of everyone entering the building effective Thursday, July 28, 2022.

    This means that all outpatients and visitors will be required to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms and potential exposure consistent with signage posted at the entrances prior to entering the hospitals.
