  • Improvements Mean Better Access to Latest Stroke Treatments

    Thanks to advancements in stroke care processes and strong partnerships with key partners, patients across the region now have better access to EVT (endovascular thrombectomy) screening at both hospital sites through formal pathways.

    EVT is the newest standard of care for ischemic stroke where highly-specialized stroke care teams can thread a guidewire and mechanically remove the clot from the brain in appropriate patients. 

  • Visiting to HDMH East Wing Suspended Due to COVID-19 Outbreak

    Visiting to East Wing at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) Site has been suspended after the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit placed East Wing under unit-specific COVID-19 outbreak status on March 29, 2022.

    Testing of patients and staff is occurring as part of outbreak management protocols, and enhanced cleaning practices are underway to limit spread.

    Annually, the Board, through the Nominations Committee, identifies vacancy requirements and conducts a recruitment drive in advance of the Annual General Meeting typically held in June.

  • MAHC Expanding Inpatient Visiting to Second Phase

    As pandemic-related provincial restrictions are eased across Ontario, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is moving to expand limited visitation for inpatients and removing the requirement for proof of vaccination against COVID-19.

    Effective Monday, March 7, admitted inpatients may receive two (2) visitors each day who are over the age of 18 during visiting hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., while continuing to adhere to strict visiting requirements. 

  • Elective/Non-Urgent Surgeries and Procedures Resuming

    Earlier this week, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) gradually started to resume elective and non-urgent surgeries and procedures that were postponed as per government direction in early January.

    The gradual and cautious resumption of non-urgent surgical activity at MAHC follows the provincial lifting of Directive #2, which instructed hospitals to pause non-urgent surgical procedures in response to growing COVID-19 case counts and hospitalizations across the province to ensure critical care capacity and human resources were available to care for hospitalized patients.

  • HDMH South Wing Out of COVID-19 Outbreak

    Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC), in consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, has declared the COVID-19 outbreak on South Wing at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) Site over.

    The outbreak lasted a total of 10 days with only the initial one patient case and one staff case attributed to the outbreak.

  • COVID-19 Outbreak at SMMH Declared Over

    Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC), in consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, has declared a COVID-19 outbreak over at the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) Site.

    The outbreak, originally declared on January 26, was lifted on February 7 and included four patient cases and two staff cases in total.
