Special Instructions and Information
It is ideal to have your first prenatal appointment at seven to eight weeks into your pregnancy. Some people may choose to have their early prenatal care with their family doctor or nurse practitioner. The first visit may be longer than other prenatal clinic appointments as it includes a thorough medical history and a physical exam. If you do not have access to a primary care provider locally, please call one of the prenatal clinics directly to make an appointment. Please feel free to bring someone with you (your spouse, partner or any other support person) to your prenatal clinic appointments.
Blood work may be part of your prenatal care and can be drawn and tested at the Dynacare Lab in Bracebridge or Huntsville or another location of your choice with no appointment needed. Ultrasounds are available at both hospital sites.
Information About Ultrasounds
Your care provider may arrange for an ultrasound of your pregnancy, possibly early in your pregnancy to confirm your due date, as well as later for an anatomy scan between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy. For your convenience, these exams can be performed at either South Muskoka Memorial Hospital or Huntsville District Memorial Hospital. Learn more about the 18-22 week ultrasound.
All ultrasound results (including the probable sex of the fetus, if that is something you wish to know) are sent to your doctor, midwife or nurse practitioner who will share them with you at a later date. The Sonographer cannot comment on the results.
