Energy Usage and Efficiency
Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) is committed to a sustainable future and has made significant efforts toward reducing the impact our hospitals pose on the environment.
Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan
Effective July 1, 2014, hospitals must report previous, current and proposed measures for conserving energy, including a forecast of the expected results of current and proposed measures. MAHC's five-year Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan includes:
- goals and objectives
- proposed measures
- cost and saving estimates
- description of renewable energy generation
- estimated length of time until the measures will be in place
- senior management sign-off
Greening Healthcare
In 2010, MAHC joined Greening Healthcare, a program that helps hospitals work together to lower energy costs, raise their environmental performance and contribute to health and well being of communities.
Special Recognition
In 2018, 2017, 2016 and in 2015, MAHC received a Silver award through the Green Hospital Scorecard for our environmental performance.
The Green Hospital Scorecard is a benchmarking and recognition program that evaluates environmental performance in five areas: energy, waste, water, pollution prevention, and corporate leadership, planning and management. It is a tool that helps hospitals to assess their environmental performance relative to peers and helps identify potential areas for improvements to environmental performance and operational efficiencies.
In 2014 and in 2013, MAHC received a Bronze award.
